Reading is fun. It is also a key skill that helps us learn and live our lives. It’s never too early to start sharing books as a family. There is lots you can do help children move towards learning to read.
Here are some ways to get you started…
Fathers Reading Every Day
FRED is an effective and sustainable home-based reading programme that gets dads reading to their children. It is simply, a “reading for pleasure” programme to inspire children with the magic of words and a life-time of memories. Ballymena Nursery School supports this programme and provides free information, children’s books and adult literature every Tuesday during Lending Library. We are also making story sacks available to everyone, mums AND DADS, who attend the Big Bed Time Read, later in the year. Please make sure to use these free services and speak to your class teacher if you feel there is anyway you can help out, or if you want to find out more information about the road to reading.
Provided by LibrariesNI, Rub-a-Dub Hub is a free online resource with tools, tips and fun activities to help parents and carers develop their child’s communication skills. Again, please make sure to use this free resource along side the Lending Library and try to join Mrs Coulter for the Big Bed Time Read where the library service will be providing new resources for story sacks and information about steps to develop your child’s language and literacy skills.
